I wanted to start to 'put down on paper' what was in my head. Not nearly in the position to start to think about designers and architects, I though I would have a go myself.

Google Sketch Up...

The basic Google Sketchup is a brilliantly useful free online design tool that is pretty user friendly and quick to pickup, and although (in my opinion) the images created give a broad idea of what I was trying to achieve, the limitations of my skills with the software resulted in a sketch of something that was not actually in my head. My skills didn't allow for that to show in the images. Anyway, this didn't dampen my enthusiasm and I probably thought that I could do the plans. Perhaps with the upgraded Google Sketchup Layout program.

I tried to get the Geo Location function of Sketchup to work for me, but its fair to say beyond my skill levels. The Geo Location function allows you to extract images of your site from Google and use the topography information. The site levels are critical to my site. Did I mention the overall site is steep? Although the main part of the building platform, the steepness of the remainder of the site is important to the planning and complexity of the project.

I've no issue with the compliance knowledge, specification and detailing for the house, but again getting my knowledge onto paper is going to be a challenge.

I may need the help of a professional?
